How is the procedure performed?
To perform the augmentation mammoplasty an incision must be made to place the implants; this incision can be made in several ways, in the lower part of the breast, under the arm and around the areola; the surgeon will evaluate the case of each patient to determine which is the best way to make the incision. After making the incision, the implant is placed, which can be placed sub glandular, that is, under the mammary gland or sub muscular, under the pectoral muscles. The implants can be silicone or gel.

Recovery time
After undergoing a surgical procedure, the body enters a recovery process both internally and externally; and these times are usually totally different. It may take 3 to 4 weeks for the pain to subside; approximately one month for the wound to close; and approximately three months for the patient to resume daily activities such as driving, exercising and lifting.
Postoperative care
- Take or apply the medications ordered by the surgeon in the corresponding schedule.
- Do not take any type of medication that has not been recommended by the surgeon.
- It is recommended to walk fifteen minutes every hour, in order to prevent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
- Avoid an upright posture during the first weeks, in order to prevent the wound from opening.
- Do not raise your arms above your shoulders.
- Do not perform any type of physical activity, exertion or weight bearing during the first three months.
- Keep on the antiembolism stockings of strong compression, at least the first fifteen days. They should only be removed when bathing.
- Eat an adequate diet that is rich in iron, vitamins and minerals which will help to raise and stabilize the hemoglobin.
- Attend medical check-ups when they are scheduled.
- Watch for signs of possible infection in the surgical wound such as: redness, heat, inflammation, blood or pus.
