How is the procedure performed?

Liposuction is performed through a small incision in the skin through which suction cannulas are inserted to remove localized fat. These cannulas are connected to a suction pump, which provides suction action. To perform a fat transfer to any part of the body, a liposuction must be performed first, through which the localized fat is extracted; and then the fat is filtered and carefully injected with needles or special cannulas in the desired area.

What type of anesthesia is used?

Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia to provide greater patient safety.

Recovery time

After undergoing a surgical procedure, the body enters into a recovery process both internally and externally; and these times are usually totally different. While liposuction is not a procedure that limits the patient’s ability to perform daily activities, it can cause pain and burning in the affected area. This also depends on the pain threshold of each patient.

The approximate time for the pain to subside can be 7 to 12 days. But it takes approximately 3 months for the body to heal internally and for the final results to be evaluated.

Postoperative care

  • Take or apply the medications ordered by the surgeon in the corresponding schedule.
  • Do not take any medication that has not been recommended by the surgeon.
  • It is recommended to walk fifteen minutes every hour, this in order to prevent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
  • Keep on the antiembolism stockings of strong compression, at least the first fifteen days. They should only be removed when bathing.
  • Perform at least 10 drainage massages, which will help to eliminate the liquids produced by the body during the recovery period. This will help the body recover faster and feel less pain.
  • Eat a proper diet that is rich in iron, vitamins and minerals, which will help to raise and stabilize the hemoglobin.
  • Attend medical check-ups when they are scheduled.
  • Watch for signs of possible infection in the surgical wound such as: redness, heat, inflammation, blood or pus.
