Gynecomastia

How is the procedure performed?
La ginecomastia puede deberse a diferentes factores, exceso de tejido graso, tejido mamario agrandado con o sin exceso de piel. Por esto existen dos técnicas para realizar este procedimiento
- Liposuction: in this surgery the fat is removed (extracted) from the breast but not the mammary gland tissue.
- Mastectomy: in this type of surgery the mammary gland tissue is removed.
What type of anesthesia is used?
The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation or regional anesthesia. This will be decided by the anesthesiologist depending on the degree of complexity of the gynecomastia and the characteristics of the patient.
Recovery time
Patients can return to work as long as it is office work that does not require physical exertion; drive and return to normal life in approximately 3 weeks.
Postoperative care
- Take or apply the medications ordered by the surgeon in the corresponding schedule.
- Do not take any type of medication that has not been recommended by the surgeon.
- It is recommended to walk fifteen minutes every hour, this in order to prevent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
- Do not raise your arms above your shoulders.
- Do not carry out any type of physical activity, or effort or carry weight during the first three months.
- Eat a proper diet that is rich in iron, vitamins and minerals which will help raise and stabilize hemoglobin.
- Attend medical check-ups when they are scheduled.
- Watch for signs of possible infection in the surgical wound such as: redness, heat, inflammation, blood or pus discharge.
- Sleep on your back for one month.
- Do not exert yourself physically for one month.
- Do not expose the wound to the sun.
- Moisturize the wound and use scar cream.
